A list of my current and past research efforts...
- RFID - Radio Frequency Identification is a form
of Auto-Identification, and is expected to displace at least
some applications of bar codes in supply chains and retail.
My research on RFID is on-going and includes several
projects:
- Critical Success Factors for RFID Supply Chain
Implementations - An Exploratory Model
- Paper presented at the 2007 SAP Curriculum Conference
Research Forum, to be published in the Kelley School of
Business Innovation Monograph III: Enterprise
Information Technology Management - Research, Practice
and Teaching
- Towards an Understanding of Critical Success Factors
for RFID Implementation in Supply Chains - Preliminary
work presented at the 2006 Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meeting.
- RFID: When Will It Be Ready for the Checkout
Counter? - Preliminary work presented at the 2006
Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meeting
-
RFID and the Cash-to-Cash Cycle - forthcoming
article to be published in the International Journal of
Manufacturing Technology and Management
- Understanding RFID - article to be included
in the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Information and
Communication Technology
- Wal-Mart and its Supply Chain: A Strategic Case
for RFID - Case study presented at the 2006 SAIS
Conference
- Photo Gallery from visit to the Metro Group's
Innovation Center and
Future Store in Germany, August
2006
- Pedagogy - Understanding how to better foster
student learning is very important to me. The
following are two projects which touch on ways to enhance
the learning experience.
- The Influence of Live Case Business Films on
Student Perceptions of Finance Principles - This
paper, co-authored with Irv DeGraw and Patricia A. Ryan,
has been presented at two Finance Conferences, once by
Dr. DeGraw and once by Dr. Ryan.
- Dinosaurs and Discovery: Exploring the Normal
Curve Using "Jurassic Park" - working paper in the
form of a Teaching Tip
- Eclectic Topics -
Information Technology is
having a profound effect on our lives. I find some
aspects of this to be perfectly delightful!
- Space Enhanced: An Interdisciplinary Look at a Parking Garage
- presentation made at the
The Symposium on Systems
Research in the Arts: Music, Environmental Design, and
the Choreography of Space,
part of the
18th Annual Conference on
Systems Research, Informatics, and Cybernetics
in Baden-Baden,
Germany, August 2006
- Space Enhanced: Technology as an Actualizing
Tool
- presentation made at the 2005 National Humanities
Forum in Research Triangle, North Carolina as part of
the seminar on "Space: Familiar, Sacred, Contested,
Compulsory" led by Dr. Annabel Wharton of Duke
University
- SAP University Alliance - Washington
College joined the SAP University Alliance in 2003. We
may be the only liberal arts college in the United States to
be a member; we are certainly one of the smallest
institutions to participate. The following
presentations touch on issues, challenges, and rewards of
integrating SAP into the curriculum
- Integrating SAP Concepts into the Curriculum at
a Small School - Opportunities and Challenges
- Presenter and Discussion Leader, 2005 SAP Curriculum
Conference in Florida
- SAP at Washington College: Lessons Learned
- Presentation made at 2004 SAP Workshop sponsored by
Drexel University
- ERP - I have several years of industry experience
with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, implementing
several J.D. Edwards modules, including General Ledger,
Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Inventory
Management, Sales Order Processing, Shop Floor Control, and,
my favorite, Configurator, which was used to create
Assemble-to-Order Bills of Material on the fly. Since
then, I have studied SAP software and used it as a teaching
aid in the classroom. Although I am not actively
working on ERP research projects, I have explored the
following topics for future research opportunities
- ERP deployment by American governmental agencies
- ERP deployed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Working with Jane Kochanov from Penn State University in
an exploratory mode,
we visited an Accounts Payable group responsible for
implementing SAP at the Commonwealth.
- Other Research
-
DIY-IT: An Empirical Study of Website
Development Staffing by Non-Profit Organizations -
Research in progress presented at the 2005 ACM SIGMIS
Computer Personnel Research Conference in Atlanta,
Georgia. Analyzed pilot survey data to better understand
how non-profit arts groups are benefiting (or not) from
deploying websites. Subscription to ACM Digital
Library needed to access pdf.
-
Data Mining in Operations
- Paper written for seminar as part of MBA program at
the University of Delaware. Described data mining
applications from an operations perspective, provided
list of researchers working in this field, and a
glossary.
