My teaching focus is on Management Information Systems (MIS); I also teach Quantitative Methods. An important component of my MIS courses is the use of SAP software in the classroom. Washington College joined the SAP University Alliance in 2003. Membership in this alliance has permitted our students to use SAP's Enterprise Resource Planning Software (R/3) and its Business Intelligence software (BW and SEM), thus expanding the depth of their conceptualization of the power and the challenges of such tools. BUS 350 Management Information Systems This junior-level course is required for the Business Management major, and within one semester, provides a broad overview of the five components of Management Information Systems: hardware, software, data, people and procedures. BUS351 Enterprise Systems This one semester elective provides an in-depth look at Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software and the business processes they support. By using exercises to run SAP software, students configure choices necessary to tailor data entry and rules for accounting, procurement, and the sales order process. BUS 215 and BUS 216 Quantitative Methods I & II This two semester sequence presents statistics concepts within a business context focused on decision-making. In addition to descriptive and inferential statistics, students are also introduced to linear programming using Microsoft Excel and to Statistical Process Control. BUS 494 Special Topics: Business Intelligence This special topics course uses SAP and other software as an anchor for learning business intelligence and strategic enterprise management concepts. Students are exposed to SAP's Business Warehouse, build balanced scorecards, and participate in a collaborative budgeting process. Teradata files are also used to illustrate data mining techniques. Results from Teradata queries of the University of Arkansas Sam's Club database are used to build GIS visualizations.
